They soon just might take our jobs. Robots are a grave concern of mine. Although as long as there are humans on this planet, there will still be the need for the human essence. Or will there be? Unless we all become robots, eventually, as science and technology are already steering us in that direction. Mechanical prosthesis' and cloned organs. This Earth will be overrun with robots sooner than we think.

or util the land a population of bots on BG, all over the place to control nations.
it was expensive to maintain colonial garrisons all over the place to shoot dong people when they rebelled. bots will be very cheap to keep. make bots to repair bots so no need for technicians.
and unlike cars and all appliances with built in obsolescence these bot would be made solid in the fist place...bot to build bots they will be built solid by bots from the get go.
look out!

it all depends on who building the bots and why.
those who are have no humanity left anyway. debatable whether they ever had any at all.
they are absolutely insane,a people described by Freud as as full of psychosis and existential insanities. but they run the world and we let them do it till now. when we finally waking up to discover it may be too late

This is a topic I love to debate with people. And you are correct when you say those who would manufacture such machines have questionable morality. I, personally, believe that these select few are among the elite who have access to other worldly information and technology and have most probably sold their souls for a piece of that pie. It is not natural for a human being, of good nature and morality, who appreciates humanity and illuminates compassion for life, to want to snuff the very life source out of creation. These robots are not human and they never will be. But we will one day become robots, because of the robots already in control, our government and social elite.

that is not a guaranteed resolution or outcome Dani.
there are alternatives to the Brave New World robotization from the top down would make of society. it can also happen from the bottom up..making society horizontal rather than the pyramid that social stratification now represents.
such technology is a great boon for human society and evolution, put into service in the interest of he people..all the people...but critically BY THE PEOPLE.
it is the general interest as dominant in the way society is run, the system by which we live, that will maintain the human element in the use of technology. it is the minority element in control that poses the grave danger you are concerned about
might i suggests that you do a lil reading n that area to see what the possibilities are in our current crisis that is basically underpinned and precipitated by that very technological revolution
