President Donald Ramotar was Monday morning meeting with the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Dr Steve Surujbally, mere hours before the 65-seat National Assembly was due to meet.
This latest development came shortly before Ramotar was due to announce that he would suspend (prorogue) Parliament, which is made up of the President and the National Assembly.
The meeting with Surujbally was aimed at getting an update on preparations by the election management body for General and Regional Elections before the end of January 2015 as well as progress towards the holding of Local Government Elections during the second quarter of 2015.
Sources at Parliament Building told Caribbean News Desk that catering for the parliamentarians has been cancelled, a clearer indication that Monday's sitting of the House has been cancelled. This effectively means that the law-making body would not have met since the last sitting on July 10 that later ran into the annual two-month parliamentary recess that ended on October 10.
Office of the President sources said that the President is expected to address the Nation later Monday.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
