(Reuters) - Aiming to head off new looting and rioting, Missouri's governor on Tuesday ordered National Guard reinforcements into the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson following overnight violence ignited by the clearing of a white police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager.
Attorneys for the family of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old shot to death by officer Darren Wilson in August, condemned as biased the grand jury process that led to Monday's decision not to bring criminal charges against Wilson.
About a dozen Ferguson buildings burned overnight and 61 people were arrested on charges including burglary, illegal weapons possession and unlawful assembly, police said. Police said protesters fired guns at them, lit patrol cars on fire and hurled bricks into their lines. Police fired tear gas and flash-bang canisters at protesters and shops were looted.
The killing in Ferguson, a predominantly black city with a white-dominated power structure, underscores the sometimes tense nature of U.S. race relations. The St. Louis County grand jury's decision also led to protests in other major U.S. cities. The unrest came despite calls by President Barack Obama and others for police and protesters to exercise restraint.

I was a little surprise while watching last night's uprising. I thought that since Mr and Mrs. Brown pleaded for calm then we woula witness a peaceful protest. I was wrong. I was still surprised. I thought that Gov. Nixon's prediction of rioting would never come true.

It might have been the presence of the National Guard that sparked protests, I also want to comment on the President's handling of the situation, i understand that as a leader you don't want to be too bipartisan, but the issue and fact is you are black sir, and the ehole world knows it, and this is indeed an issue of race, I just wish he would be more vocal on the issues, and when ethnic democrats refuse to support the democrats in mid-terms we hear a whole other thiong, he's not supporting Ethnic minorities so why should they suppor him or his party?

It don't look like Ferguson is backing down. It don't look like those troops mean anything to the people there. I'm just waiting this one out and see what happens.

I think so, the black community have felt anger at how police behave with their race and may have wanted to release their anger by doing the riots in the street. I think the cop should have got some punishment as, no justice as been done for the brown family and is really sad to see them suffer from the law. I think more riots will occur, until something happens or he get's punished by the law which is trying to save him from going to jail. The ferguson community is not going to lay down, and let cops hurt the young or cause harm will even fight back and will be a big problem in the coming days to come.

I understand in the US protests have gone nationwide. This is expected since this boils down to "color of your skin" at the end of the day.
