While in Havana for peace talks, the leadership of Colombia’s Marxist FARC rebels declared an unilateral, indefinite ceasefire on Wednesday, adding that it "should transform into an armistice.†The FARC, or Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, has been in negotiations with the Colombian government for two years to end five decades of conflict that has left approximate 220,000 people dead and millions homeless. It has declared ceasefires at Christmastime twice before, but this is the first time it has set an indefinite ceasefire, Reuters reported. The government of Colombia had no immediate comment. While there is no apparent direct link between this announcement and today’s decision by the U.S. to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba, Havana is one of the group’s major backers.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
