(Barbados Nation) THE ARAWAK CEMENT Company has been dealt another blow.
Following news that its parent company Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) would soon be debating the future of the St Lucy plant, its largest client, Ready Mix Limited, revealed yesterday that it had started importing its own cement.
Graham Proverbs, general manager of Ready Mix, confirmed to the SATURDAY SUN that it had offloaded its first shipment of 15 000 tonnes of cement it imported from Suriname, which is the same amount it purchases from Arawak each month.
“The bottom line is price. Arawak can supply us but at what cost are they supplying us at? We are their largest single user of cement in the island and we have to pay the same price as everybody else,†the Ready Mix boss said.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
