North York auto shop mechanic charged in sexual assault of customer

A 52-year-old man is facing charges after a woman told police she was sexually assaulted while attempting to retrieve her car from a North York auto repair garage last week.

According to police, the woman arrived at Canacko's Auto Centre on Elrose Avenue near Wilson Avenue and Highway 400 on Friday and was subsequently locked inside the shop.

Police say that’s when the alleged sexual assault happened.

A suspect identified as Toronto resident Nelson Cortez-Marin was arrested on Saturday in connection with the case. He has been charged with forcible confinement and sexual assault.

Police believe there may be additional victims.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-3100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
