Supporters of the family of Tamir Rice are outraged over the city of Cleveland’s claim that the 12-year-old boy was responsible for his own shooting death.
“It’s unbelievable,†Walter Madison, one of the Rice family’s attorneys, told the Washington Post on Monday. “There are a number of things that we in society don’t allow 12-year-olds to do. We don’t allow them to vote, we don’t allow them to drink. In court we don’t try them as adults. They don’t have the capacity to understand the consequences of their actions.â€
Benjamin Crump, Rice family co-counsel, told CNN that the family was “just in disbelief.â€
Tamir Rice was killed on Nov. 22 outside a recreation center by police officers who were responding to a report of a person with a gun. Rice, who was playing with a pellet gun, was shot within seconds after officers arrived at the scene by rookie cop Timothy Loehmann, who reportedly said he had “no choice†but to defend himself.
The family’s lawsuit, filed in December, alleges police used excessive force and failed to immediately provide first aid.
On Friday, the city’s attorneys responded to a lawsuit filed by the family, saying their claims “were directly and proximately caused by their own acts†and that Tamir caused his own death “by the failure ... to exercise due care to avoid injury.â€
Not surprisingly, the city’s seemingly cold response has drawn considerable outrage online.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

It's not unbelievable to me that somehow a 12 year old was responsible for his own death. I don't find the remarks made by city officials in Cleveland to be shocking because they are trying to find any excuse to justify the murder of Tamir Rice. I saw the video. The kid was murdered within 1.2 seconds of the cop arriving. The footage was disturbing with the cop getting out of the car and shooting the kid on sight as if he was playing Call of Duty. Tamir was never given a chance. I am so sick of how people always accuse victims (mostly black) of not responding in a certain manner. John Crawford was killed within seconds of those cops entering Walmart and shooting him right away. Tamir Rice was executed within 1.2 seconds of the cop getting there and yet somehow these two victims didn't act in a proper manner to avoid their fatal outcomes. It's sickening to say the least.

its unfortunate when kids get killed....murdered by who supposed to be their own. bur are the cops really americas own ::confused::
same with cops everywhere..who do they work for even if paid by the public? deh work for the rich even if paid for by the people. and it is very interesting to see that western police forces are all trained in Israel. the Trinidad police force for example has morphed into the devil itself against the people of that nation. imagine my sooprise when I learned that they too are trained in Israel :-[ :-[
but excluding the kids...when I see the brutality of americans by their police/government the evil that they have condoned and participated in, in behalf of that system comes to mind. broken Libya, the Congo, all over Africa at some point, East Timor, Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Yemen, Somalia and Syria right now, Iraq.
millions of people form almost the entire planet, killed by america for the profit of their rich class...millions killed by ordinary american soldiers who joined up by the millions over the years, to go gleefully all over the planet killing ordinary people like themselves for the profit of the rich...one of whom nasty old skunt Clint Eastwood just celebrated in his current rotten movie Sniper...which those same ordinary americans have made into a blockbuster hit.
well it is those same Sniper like tests who become police and are not killing ordinary amricans 3-4 every single day. the same system that dresses up millions of american sons and send them to kill others is now killing off amricans in their own cities and towns arbitrarily.
I sit back and watch and am amazed at the purposeful cruelty of the cops perpetrated on their own fellow citizens. but that is what that type does every day all over the world and americans dont care.
but is now their turn too and there is no one to help them..not even skunt Clint Eastwood who is a millionaire many times over, Dirty Harry will not magically appear to kill off all the dirty cops like in the movies. the ordinary americans are on their own just like the people of the rest of the world have been on their own at the mercy of they themselves as american soldiers with big guns in their hands
it is impossible for me to feel any sympathy at all for the plight of americans currently at the hands of their government and police and military. and it is going to get far far worse. the american people will have to get up and stop it themselves, tsmarten up and kill their system and set up a different peaceful society in the place of the current monstrosity.

The cops did not try to talk to him assumed he had a real gun and was going to do violence and was a threat should have approached him at least or told him to put it down. This goes to show, that the cops react or overact to a threat over the top when they could have talked to him but they went the violent way and it did not give good results. Cops in the USA are different and tend to use violence or threats instead of, trying to diffuse the situation which could have been done easily I reckon.
