Percy Sledge , the Alabama-born R&B powerhouse who topped the Billboard Hot 100

with "When a Man Loves a Woman" in 1966,

died this morning in his Baton Rouge, Louisiana home, according to ABC News .

He was 73.

Sledge was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sledge is survived by his wife and children.
