Former Commonwealth Secretary General, Sir Shridath Ramphal has fallen and has been admitted to the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, according to well-placed sources.
Ramphal,86, arrived in Guyana on Monday.
His hospitalization comes at a time when Guyana is a preparing to take the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy to a legal dispute settlement mechanism.
The former Guyanese Foreign Minister under then President Forbes Burnham has been working very closely with the current administration in addressing border issues with Suriname and Venezuela that date back to the colonial times.
Sir Shridath headed Guyana’s legal team that successfully settled the maritime boundary between Guyana and Suriname in 2007.
He is a former Chancellor of several universities including the University of Guyana.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
