An Indian jewellery advertisement featuring top Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been criticised
as being "racist" and promotes child slavery..
The advertisement shows a black, emaciated child holding a red parasol over the fair, bejewelled actress.
A group of activists, in an "open letter" to Ms Rai Bachchan, called the image "extremely objectionable".

The visual reflects 17th century European paintings of noblewomen with their child servants :

Unbelievable that in this day in age people seem think that there is beauty or art in such imagery.
More unbelievable is that people are still enamored with the idea of royalty and peerage by accident of birth.
After all that is what the image is clearly intended to convey. Here is a clear skinned woman bedecked in jewels and fine attire being dutifully served by a very dark skinned servant showing obvious signs of malnutrition. This is the quintessential European image of royalty now adopted by some moronic Indians to sell jewellery.
I can't facking stand the faux nobility/royalty bestowed on some of these Bollywood families and celebrities. In my view there is nothing beautiful, virtuous, or noble about monarchy. It is an archaic and thoroughly repugnant institution which has no place in modern civilized societies.

Which monarchical institution didn't or doesn't?
The very idea of being a monarch or royalty is that you have "subjects" who serve you.

What do you make of these Bachans? They have been bestowed with honourary "Royalty" in India.
I see them as a bunch of rich pampered and privileged arseholes. As for their acting abilities? "Ordinary" comes to mind.
