14-Year Old Girl Sets Herself On Fire After Uncle, Friends Gangrape Her

A 14-year-old girl attempted to commit suicide by setting herself on fire after she was allegedly gangraped by her uncle and four of his friends at Kosi Kalan area in UP. The alleged gangrape took place on April 19 when the Dalit girl's parents had gone to work and her uncle identified as Sukhbir lured her to come along and locked her in a room, they said.

Sukhbir along with four of his friends then gangraped the minor. Two days later, the girl poured kerosene on herself and tried to set herself ablaze following which she suffered 70 percent burn injuries, they said, adding, she was rushed to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital in a serious condition.

Following a complaint filed by the girl's father last night, all the five accused have been arrested and will be produced before a court on April 22, police said. Upon receiving information about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini and DIG Laxmi Singh met with the family and assured that the National Security Act will also be invoked in the case.
