Racing spectator killed after stepping in front of horse

A horse race in Peru was brought to a horrifying end after a spectator was killed after stepping in front of one of the animals as it raced for the finish line.

Horse racing fan Faustino Landeo Delgadillo died in hospital after a collision with a horse and his jockey in Acobamba, around 280 miles east of Lima.

The graphic scenes were captured on the camera of a spectator but we have has chosen to censor them.

The 50-year-old, Mr Delgadillo is seen attempting to cross the track as the horses thunder towards him.

He is brutally knocked to the floor by one of the animals – before the camera angle captures him lying motionless on the ground as crowds gather around him.

The tragic incident occurred on May 3, according to local media reports.

Mr Delgadillo died from severe trauma and respiratory failure.

The jockey was also injured and taken to medics but is expected to make a full recovery.

It remains unclear why the spectator walked onto the tracks.

Reports have emerged that he was on the phone and intoxicated, but authorities are still to confirm an official version of events.

The horror crash did not halt proceedings, with Acobamba Mayor Alvar Capcha Ortiz awarding the winning horse ‘Kina’ with first prize.
