Preakness 2015

Tale of Verve is an interesting and informative horse.  he ran late powerfully for third but his Beyers are awful. 

and what was worse was that he was a maiden breaker running against winners for the first time.
low Beyers and running against the top horses in america in his first race against winners.

a few 3 facts I used to scope him out.  first I don't believe wholeheartedly in Beyers as a measure of the class of a horse.  there are times when Beyers tell a story and times when they cannot.

Beyers are most helpful when all the horses under consideration have run at the same track.  the different tracks produce different beyers for same quality and length  of races, even if all the tracks began with the same table.  they always diverge, no matter what, because every track in their different locations feature different conditions that impact beyers differently. so accurate comparison is impossible using beyers unless all the races used to judged the horses were run at one tract.

hence the very low beyers of Tale of Verve, compared to others in the Preakness...all earned at Fair Grounds race track..a notoriously slow surface.. those beyers could  mean anything if those races were run at Santa Anita for example..or even Belmont in New York, which can be a pretty fast track.

the low beyers of Tale of Verve had to be totally ignored as factors of comparison.  to be taken quite seriously however, was his form, the top jockey they put on his back and his pedigree and cost.
his owners paid 440,000.00 dollars for Tale of Verve..out of Tale of the Cat, a pedigree I do not like for my reasons, but one that is indeed very successful.  Tale of Verve by all counts would have something to offer..and his previous struggles no doubt, were due to trainer difficulties to figure him out early
