NOHO, Manhattan — A man is still at large after he allegedly shoved a woman onto subway tracks in Manhattan, just seconds before a train came barreling into the station during a busy morning rush hour, police said Wednesday.
The incident is under investigation by the NYPD’s hate crime unit, police said.
The 28-year-old woman was on the southbound No. 6 train platform at the Bleecker Street station when a man acting erratically walked up to her, police said. It happened about 9 a.m. Monday.
“What are you looking at?†the attacker said to the woman, seemingly out of the blue, according to detectives.
He then ran to a garbage can and grabbed an empty plastic bottle from inside the bin. Surveillance video shows the culprit throwing the bottle at the victim. Seconds later, he pushes her onto the tracks.
A train was just seconds away from arriving at the station, police said, not revealing how the young woman climbed out of the tracks, on her own or with help from the dozens of witnesses who watched the horrifying incident unfold.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where she was treated and released.
Anyone with information in the case or who recognizes the attacker is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
