The Ministries of Communities which holds responsibility for local government, has fired Town Clerk of the City of Georgetown, Carol Sooba and her appointment has been revoked effective July 7, 2015.
Sooba has been on leave since the new government took office. She was sent on leave by the Georgetown City Council back in May to clear the way for a probe of the finances of the City council.
In a letter to Sooba dated July 1, 2015, the Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan informed the Town Clerk that “by the virtue of the power invested in me at Section 116 (1) of the Municipal and Districts Council’s Act 326 (4), of the said Act, your appointment as Town Clerk (ag) is revoked effective from July 7, 2015.
No reason was given for the revocation of Sooba’s appointment but just after taking office, Minister Bulkan had indicated that he intended to act on the City Council’s no confidence motion in Sooba.
Although the Council had passed the no confidence motion, the former PPP Civic government refused to act on it.
Sooba became the Town Clerk under a cloud of controversy and court filings after the Council declared that she was not qualified for the position and was imposed on the Council by the former PPP Civic government which had a minority on the council.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
