Tribute To Poet Shailendra in Brampton

Brampton: This one is for all those who hummed the Raj Kapoor songs and didn’t quite knew that there was a brilliant poet called Shailendra working behind his roles. Brampton Libarary will host a tribute event in his memory, ‘Poetry in Hindi Cinema with Shailendra’ with a presentation by UK based noted Hindi author Tejendra Sharma.

Shailendra, known as a poet of the common man, wrote the lyrics for films  Aawara, Shri 420, Guide, Andaz, and Sangam among scores of others. Sharma a story writer, poet, actor, Director, Editor and General Secretary of Katha UK has in the past produced power-point presentations on B.R. Chopra, Sahir Ludhianvi, Holi in Hindi Cinema and Hindi Poetry in Hindi Cinema. He pays tribute to this great lyricist and would try to establish the literary value of Shailendra’s poetry with the help of video screening of songs from Shailendra’s films. He will also compare Shailendra’s lyrics with the poetry of Shakespeare, Shelly and Ghalib. Clips from Shailendra’s film songs will also be screened . Event is being held in association with Cross Current – Indo Canadian International Arts. 8th August 2015 (Saturday) at 2-4 PM Cyril Clark Library Lecture Hall, Brampton Librarary, 20 Loafers Lake Ln, Brampton.
