In an effort to bring together Sikh families within the Durham region, the Durham Alliance of Sikhs (DAS) organised the first-ever Durham Sikh Camp. The overnight Gurmat camp focused on joining together as Sangat (a community), and learning the teachings of the Sikh Gurus and the Sikh way of life.g_camp
Gurmat camps are held in cities across North America. At a typical Gurmat camp, those who attend learn about the tenets of the Guru, more specifically focusing the mind towards the Guru.
The ‘guru’ here in gur-mat means the Ten Gurus of the Sikh faith as well as gur-bani, i.e. their inspired utterances recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib.
This inaugural camp was held July 17-19th, 2015 at Camp Samac in Oshawa, and is currently the only Gurmat camp held in the Durham region. The camp accommodated over 100 campers and spots which filled up so fast, that there was no promotion of the event necessary.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
