Digicel dental care outreach to target eight locations across the country

DIGICEL Guyana yesterday launched their annual dental-care outreach which is geared towards promoting the oral health of children in time for their return to school.The first dental outreach started at the Digicel office at High Street, Kingston, Georgetown, with the dental bus being fully equipped to cater to the dental needs of children and there was a good turnout of children from the surrounding area.

Digicel Communications Manager Vidya Brijlall-Sanichara told the media that they have partnered with the Rotary Club of Central Georgetown for the dental outreach project for the past four years and this year they will be going to eight locations across the country.

She explained that the project is well received and this year will be no different, in that the services provided are free of cost and the children will be given a back-to-school gift as well.

Brijlall-Sanichara stated that today they will be at the Timehri Police Station, East Bank Demerara and will also go to Tuschen, Hararununi Soesdyke/Linden Highway, among other places as part of their corporate responsibility to give back to the community.

Meanwhile, Andrew Boyle of the Rotary Club of Central Georgetown said the organisation has once again collaborated with Digicel Guyana in the dental outreach initiative, which he deemed as very good in going to far-reaching areas and not only in the city.

He added that the dental bus was acquired by a group of Rotarians from the U.S., but observed that the bus needs some repairs since it is an aged vehicle and it would be appreciated if other companies get on board to assist.

Boyle noted that on the dental bus they have staffers from the Dental School, including a doctor, a dental surgeon, a dental assistant and a dental nurse.

He said further that they will see as many children as possible with a possible cutoff time at about 17:00hrs daily until the outreach is completed.
