In the last 24 hours, a truck crashed in Swaziland killing around 40 female passengers on their way to a festival.
Tragedies like this reinforce the need for the international community to strengthen aid programs so that suffering nations can make greater infrastructure investments.
What do Cameron in the UK, Obama in the US, Key in New Zealand and Abbott in Australia all have in common? They have all slashed overseas aid budgets as a percentage of GDP to shore up their own economies. Poorer nations rely on generous donations to help develop their roads and rail. Without a dramatic increase in generosity, tragedies like this truck crash will continue to escalate.
