About one million people evacuated in Chile when an 8.3 magnitude earthquake shook the Central region of the country leading to mass panicked evacuation and alerts of tsunami. Initial reports declared 5 dead, while Illapel residents, being close to the quake’s epicenter ran across streets in terror. Houses swayed and many collapsed, groceries dropped off shelves in supermarkets and 4.5m waves hit the coastal area of Coquimbo. Tsunami alert has been lifted after the waves subsided. Coquimbo coastal area is said to be the point of the tremor, leaving the region as the worst affected one.
