Bronx mother charged with murder after allegedly throwing baby out window

FORDHAM HEIGHTS, The Bronx – A  mother has been charged with murder after she allegedly dropped her baby out of the 6th floor window of a Bronx apartment, police said Friday.

Investigators said the 6-month-old victim was found unconscious and unresponsive lying on the pavement outside 2200 Tuebout Ave. just before 2 p.m. Tuesday. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The child's mother Tenisha Fearon, 27, was taken into custody at the scene and taken to a separate hospital where the judge has ordered a psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.

Fearon was charged with second-degree murder, according to police.

Godmother Luella Hatch said she thinks Fearon has postpartum depression.

"My belief is she was sick and she didn't tell anybody," she said outside the 46th precinct Friday.

Fearon has three other children under the age of 10. Officials said they were found in the Tiebout Avenue apartment unharmed.

PIX11 News has confirmed Fearon was previously a licensed day care operator in her home.

According to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services she was licensed until this past spring.

"Tenisha Fearon was a registered family day care provider from 2013 to 2015 with no complaints or violations. Her registration expired on April 30 and she did not apply for renewal. Her program is closed," spokesperson Steve Flamisch said.

This is the third case in three months of a mother accused of tossing her baby to its death.

Dr. Jeff Gardere is a psychologist who did not treat the women, but he suspects it could be related to postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis.

"It could be a very sad, tragic coincidence. But being that this is the 3rd one and they are so close in their proximity, there is a possibility of a copy cat killing here. But again, being fueled by some very severe depression, postpartum or some sort of psychosis," Gardere said.

According to prosecutors, Fearon threw the baby to her death as her other children watched in horror. Those kids were taken into protective custody.
