Move to north Trinidad
By Cecily Asson Thursday, November 5 2015
OFFICIALS of the United States Embassy in Marli Street, Port-of-Spain, have contacted and advised traumatised American couple Stanley Post, 70, and his wife Barbara, 72, to move out of their home in rural Los Iros, south-west Trinidad and relocate to the northern part of the country until they are ready to emigrate back to the States.
But contacted for comment yesterday, Stanley said he does not intend to relocate to anywhere in the country as in his own words, “nowhere in Trinidad is safe!†“It just doesn’t make any sense. Once we lock the door to this house down here in Los Iros, we gone for good,†Mrs Post said as she revealed receiving lots of support and encouragement from friends and well wishers following a story published in Newsday yesterday, highlighting their near escape from armed bandits on Monday.
The couple managed to escape unhurt when they were attacked by a gang of three bandits armed with cutlasses and guns when they were about to enter the yard of their home located on the beachfront at Los Iros Road, Erin. Police believe the said three were behind the hold-up and rape of an eightmonths pregnant woman on the Los Iros beach also on Monday.
Up to yesterday the criminals remained at large.
“Officials from the American Embassy had a conversation with us and they also contacted the Erin Police.
“The police officers promised to return a call to the Embassy but they are still waiting at the Embassy.
“Right now my husband is speaking to persons in the US State Department. We are not taking what happened to us just so. “Two old persons attacked and then a pregnant woman raped...this crime thing is outrageous to say the least,†Mrs Post said.
Barbara and Stanley have been living on the beach front in Los Iros for the past 14 years — they said they purchased their dream home following their retirement and moved to Trinidad to live after searching the internet and “picking the first place they found.†Barbara told Newsday their home has been robbed and ransacked on several occasions.
They were also subjected to taunts from persons who called them “white devils†after they (the Posts) complained about noise pollution and raucous behaviour on the beach outside their home.
The Posts yesterday insisted they will put their retirement home up for sale and return to the United States to live out the rest of their lives.
Officers of the Erin Police Station are continuing enquiries.
