Seems like the Dad saw plenty enough to advise the young man to enjoy a more comfortable life that education, and the subsequent opportunities it affords.

This story is not special mate. This is the culture in Berbice .  Believe  me I know .
I know one of Googlee teacher that was a cane cutter for 8 years who would study  at nights and acquired  7 subjects  in GCE. He  then  attented UG where he got his  Bachelors degree and subsequently ended up as Googs teacher in high school
