This absolutely breaks my heart, along with the rampant xenophobia being spewed on FB this week. Lemme break it down for you: (1) Being a refugee does NOT make you a terrorist; (2) Being Islamic does NOT make you a terrorist; (3) showing NO compassion towards individuals (esp. children) who have lost everything and have been forced to flee their homes to survive by barring them from our borders DOES however make you UN-American and UN-Christian.

Call me a bleeding heart liberal if you must, but chances are YOUR ancestors benefited from us not closing our borders even when public opinion consistently didn't want to let them in (see the Irish, Germans, Jews, Polish, etc.)

As Americans, we derive strength in our diversity and our compassion.

If we let fear dictate our public policies, then we have truly lost our moral compass.

                     

I don't think anyone wants to turn away people who truly need help.

However a lot of people are complaining that the media is only focusing on stories that tug at the heart strings, ignoring very real and present dangers that mass, wide open immigration poses in this particular case.

Part of the problem is that whenever anyone tries to discuss this openly and honestly, they are dismissed as "racists" (preposterous as Muslims come in many different colors, and Islam is not a race) or xenophobes (wanting to ensure your safety and your country's integrity = xenophobia?), which effectively shuts down the conversation.
