CARACAS, (Reuters) – Venezuela’s opposition trounced the ruling Socialists yesterday to win the legislature for the first time in 16 years and gain a long-sought platform to challenge President Nicolas Maduro’s rule of the OPEC nation.
The opposition Democratic Unity coalition won 99 seats to the Socialists’ 46 in the 167-national National Assembly, the election board said, with some districts still to be counted.
Fireworks were set off in celebration in pro-opposition districts of Caracas when the results were announced, while government supporters dismantled planned victory parties.
Maduro, 53, quickly acknowledged the defeat, the worst for the ruling “Chavismo†movement since its founder Hugo Chavez took power in 1999.
“We are here, with morals and ethics, to recognize these adverse results,†Maduro said in a speech to the nation, although he blamed his defeat on a campaign by business leaders and other opponents to sabotage the economy.
“The economic war has triumphed today,†Maduro said
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

what did Maduro expect. he is a traitor to Chavismo and to socialism, ultimately providing little choice between the Chavistas and the right wing.
but it is the Venezuela ordinary voters who are the real fools going back to the people who had them trampled and sucking salt for at least 150 years. that is how stupid ordinary people are.
what now do they expect from the right wing but a return to their exploitation and this time with draconian vengeance with the point being that they must never rise again to challenge the elites :
the answer is not a right turn but a far deeper left turn, into deep popular policies dominated by the people in administrative structure they create as they go.
oh well! what the hell. I said my piece.
AND NOW BG MUST START TO LOOK OUT FOR THE RISE OF THE VENEZUELAN RIGHT WING. I DO NOT SEE THAT AS A POSITIVE RELATIVE TO GUYANA. NOT ONLY WILL THE WEST INDIES LOOSE PETROCARIBE AND ALL VENEZUALAN PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMS IN THE REGION BUT THE VENEZUEALAN RIGHT WING WILL BE A DESTABILIZING REGIONAL FACTOR
ITS GOOD THAT THE PRICE OF OIL IS LOW. IF OIL RISES AGAIN AND NO PETROCARIBE THE WEST INDIES, SAVE TRINIDAD WILL SINK INTO DESPERATE AND LIKELY IRREVOCABLE POVERTY.
AND GUYANA..WILL LIKELY BE INVADED, REGARDLESS OF WHAT BRAZIL MAY SAY ABOUT WAR AND INVASION ON ITS BORDERS. THE BRAZILS WILL NOT AND CANNOT CHALLENGE THE AMERICANS IN THE REGION, AND THE AMERICANS WILL GIVE THE VENEZUALAN RIGHT WING THE GREEN LIGHT
