THREE siblings were arrested during the Chutney Brass fete at the weekend.
And the youngest brother remained in prison custody after his court appearance yesterday.
Charges of possession of marijuana and resisting and obstructing police officers were laid.
Defendant Shameel Ali of Aranjuez told the court he was guilty of having marijuana and resisting Constable Ramdhin in the execution of his duties.
San Fernando Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay heard that at 3.10 a.m. on Sunday, the officer was on duty at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, when he saw Ali smoking a cigarette of unusual length and thickness.
Ali saw the police officer and threw it on the ground.
Police prosecutor Sgt Gordon Maharaj said Constable Ramdhin “searched and found at the defendant's feet a plastic packet containing plant material resembling marijuana which the defendant took out of his pocket and threw on the groundâ€.
The packet contained 0.5 grammes of marijuana.
When told he was under arrest and the officer held on to Ali's hand, he began pulling away violently and said in a loud tone that he was not “taking that lock upâ€.
Maharaj said Ali also threatened to kill the officer's wife and children or have someone else do it.
Ali, 25, denied he made such threats to the policeman, but in saying he was sorry for his actions at the fete, he said: “I apologise for what I did and tell you.â€
Defence attorney Nicole Basraj said her client, who was a painter and gardener, was the designated driver for Chutney Brass and drove his family to the event.
She asked for a non-custodial sentence for the husband who, she said, was also the father of a three-month-old child.
Dubay was told Ali had not given officers his finger prints and his criminal background and was therefore unavailable for yesterday's hearing. Ali will be sentenced tomorrow after a tracing is done.
His brother Jeffrey Ali, 30, and sister Sarita Ali, 39, were charged with obstructing and resisting Ramdhin and Constable Deena in the execution of their duties at Guraracara Park.
Sarita Ali faced a third charge of using obscene language.
Both said they were not guilty of the offences when they appeared before Magistrate Margaret Alert.
They were ordered to continue on their bail and return to court on May 6.
