Former Magistrate and one time senior police officer, Gordon Gilhuys was on Tuesday arrested, detained and then released on $10,000 station bail in the police ‘E’ Division, Linden.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that he was arrested after a junior police rank reported to his superiors that he was approached by Gilhuys, who is now now a lawyer, to alter the statements of the relatives of a rape victim in favor of his client.
Commander of the Police Division, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus confirmed the development to the Guyana Chronicle Newspaper. According to the information reaching this publication, the police are investigating a matter of rape of a female under the age of 16 years old by a 23 – year – old young man, who is being represented Gilhuys.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that the incident of rape took place in October of last year but the matter was only reported to the police earlier this year.

Former President Donald Ramotar has roasted the APNU+AFC government over the manner in which it treated the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the death of historian Dr Walter Rodney and the three Caribbean commissioners.
Ramotar who had appointed the CoI in 2015 and lost office before it concluded its deliberations said it was another shameful page in the conduct of the nation’s affairs by this government.
“I am extremely disturbed and disappointed at the way the APNU+AFC regime has treated the Commission of Inquiry into the circumstances that led to the assassination of Walter Rodneyâ€, Ramotar said in a statement yesterday. The statement comes amid major controversy last week around the handing over of the report by Chairman of the Commission, Sir Richard Cheltenham and Commissioners Seenath Jairam and Jacqueline Samuels.

Thousands of Guyanese yesterday gathered around the D’Urban Park to witness the flag raising ceremony for the 46th Republic Anniversary.
Although the ceremony was set to start at 5pm, scores of people, decked out in all colours of the spectrum, filled the stands and kept on flowing into park from as early as 3.30pm.
Armed with mini flags which they waved in the air, many in the crowd waited patiently as the steelpan band serenaded them
