ALERTS IN EFFECT
Rainfall Warning, Freezing Rain and snow
Issued at 05:06 Wednesday 24 February 2016
Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. A moisture laden low pressure area located over Kentucky this morning will bring a significant rain storm to the region as it tracks up just south of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today and tonight then to southeastern Quebec Thursday.
Rain, heavy at times, is forecast to begin this morning and continue into the evening hours. A brief period of snow or freezing rain is possible this morning as the precipitation moves in. Total rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 mm are expected by this evening. A clap or two of thunder is also possible especially in areas near Eastern Lake Erie.
Precipitation will change to snow on Thursday as colder air gets pumped in from the north in the wake of this large low pressure area. Environment Canada continues to monitor this system very closely. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.
Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada
