India’s Mohammed Irfan thrills Macoya crowd
By Seeta Persad Monday, February 29 2016
The man with the honey voice from India, Mohammed Irfan did not disappoint the thousands who crowded Centre of Excellence, Macoya, on Saturday night, while TT’s own Raymond Ramnarine and his sons Varun and Vinesh did an excellent job in bringing the best in Bollywood songs to the stage. But it was Irfan who woke the audience up with his smooth yet powerful voice.
This annual Rafi Mohammed’s concert saw Irfan performing the popular songs, ‘Tumhi Ho’, ‘Pal Pal Dil’, ‘Sonu Nah Saang Mar Mar’, ‘Hoto Sey Jhulo Tum’ and a number of gazal and folk songs. It was not until 11 pm when the singing sensation entered with his fourpiece orchestra to bring non-stop songs that lasted just over one hour, much to the delight of his fans.
Raymond who is described as TT’s heartthrob, also brought the house down when he performed, ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’, ‘Tere Naam’ ‘Aap Kay’, ‘London Thumakta’, and ‘Chalo Nah’. Raymond made a grand entrance with the song, ‘Gerua’ adapted from the new film ‘Dilwale’. He was accompanied by a violinist.
Raymond and members of his band Dil-E Nadan took time off from the music to award four persons who have contributed to the development of culture in TT - bandleader Roy Cape, Justice of Peace Akbhar Khan, Navimool Khan and Ruby Khan Gupta.
Vinesh Ramnarine who is just ten years old rendered the uptempo folk song, ‘Oh Lal Mere’. Calling himself the young ‘Show-Stopper’, this youngster was comfortable on stage dancing to his tune, ‘Chuma Chuma’. He then existed the stage saying he’ll be back in 2017.
