President David Granger will today meet Alliance For Change (AFC) leader Khemraj Ramjattan to discuss concerns that the allocation of APNU+AFC coalition seats won in Georgetown and other parts of the country at the recent local government elections was unfair.
While AFC sources told Stabroek News that members raised concerns about the allocations with party leaders on Sunday, Granger, who is also leader of APNU, yesterday said that he was not notified by the AFC leader or the party of the issue and he only learned of it after reading yesterday’s edition of the Stabroek News. Neverthe-less, he said he has made the decision to address it as early as possible.
“I have not been spoken to by the AFC. I am aware of what was published in the papers, that’s all, and I intend to meet with the leader of the AFC as early as possible, to discuss his concerns.

This is a turn up for the books. So the AFC goes running to the news papers to air their claims of unfairness, but they did not discuss it with the PNC before their accord, or after the LGE results were in. I am getting very worried about the competence of the people at the top of the AFC.

It looks more that the AFC doesn't know its brains from its backside. You don't go in bed with cut throats without arming yourself discretely. The AFC knew from day one that the coalition agreement was based on personal power play by the leaders, and a chance to get into office by the rest. But in their haste to get the signatures on the agreement, in the believe that half a glass of water is better than not even a glass, those birdbrains did not see the LGE as an opportunity. The PNC rightly did not raise the issue, since it would not have been in their interest to do so. Now the AFC calling foul. So what are they going to do if Granger gives them nothing? They have no legal leg to stand on. The highest court in the land would throw out the case since no verbal or written contract exists. The AFC cannot put even one person forward who could testify in court that he or she had started negotiations with the PNC or APNU about the proportion of LGE allocation.

If he lives long enough he might pleasantly surprise us all. His main problem is with the old PPP lot that defected to the AFC. He needs people behind him who are not tainted with the corruption of the past. The AFC has few of them.

Following a meeting yesterday between President David Granger and Alliance For Change (AFC) Leader Khemraj Ramjattan, proposals were crafted to deal with a complaint by the AFC that it has been “shortchanged†in allocation of seats won by the governing APNU+AFC coalition at the recent local government polls.
“A meeting did take place. We are supposed to release something to the press. The Prime Minister [Moses Nagamootoo] and [Social Cohesion Minister] Amna Ally [are] supposed to be working on it,†Ramjattan told Stabroek News when contacted yesterday.

President David Granger says he personally rescinded the controversial appointment of Brian Tiwari as business advisor to the government as he did not believe that he was needed.
“They have a Minister of Business and as far as I am concerned that minister is quite capable, quite competent and he has not asked me for any assistance and I personally rescinded Mr. Tiwari’s appointment,†Granger said in an interview for the weekly television programme, ‘The Public Interest.’
