GLEN HEAD, N.Y. — A Long Island woman has been arrested on a murder charge after police say she suffocated her newborn baby girl and then stuffed the child’s body in a plastic bag.

Nassau County police say 20-year-old Sharon Seudat was arrested Friday and is being charged with second degree murder.

Officers responded to woman’s home on Walnut Street in Glen Head around 8:25 a.m. Thursday to find her bleeding profusely. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined she had just given childbirth.

Detective Capt. John Azzata says Seudat, who hid the pregnancy from her parents, initially denied giving birth.

Investigators returned to the home to find the baby’s lifeless body in a black plastic bag at the home. Azzata says the child was born alive and was suffocated.

Seudat is expected to be arraigned Saturday. It wasn’t immediately clear if she had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.

This is terrible news.:/ She could have given the baby up for adoption if she isn't ready to be a mother. Of course, if she isn't ready to be a mother, she should have taken contraceptives or even abstained from being intimate with another person.

Sigh... The sad thing is, an innocent life is lost just because of her carelessness and selfishness. I get that she is young and maybe her parents won't accept the baby, but regardless, she just killed an innocent baby. Can she carry that into her conscience forever? Because I sure can't.

This goes to show that there needs to be more safe sex education to all young people. Because no matter what, it isn't only the mother's life that is affected but also the baby's life. In this case, the baby was gone too soon because of an unwanted pregnancy.
