LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged a man who shot and killed his son with premeditated murder, alleging that he committed the crime because his son was gay.
Shehada Issa, 69, said he shot his son in self-defense after he discovered his wife's dead body in their house.
The district attorney's office said Friday that Issa had allegedly threatened to kill his 29-year-old son, Amir, in the past because he was gay.
"The murder was committed because of the victim's sexual orientation and because of the defendant's perception of that status and the victims' association with a person and a group of that status," prosecutors said in a statement.
Issa was arrested Tuesday after Los Angeles police officers found the younger man's body outside a house in the city's North Hills area. Issa's wife was found stabbed to death inside the house.
Detectives said Issa told officers he found his wife's body in a bathroom.
"He claimed (the son) was armed with a knife, and there was no knife to be found (there). It was a horrible family tragedy," Detective John Doerbecker told the Daily News.
Authorities allege the father used a shotgun in the attack on his son, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Doerbecker told the Daily News that there had been problems between the father and son, including the son reportedly vandalizing the home. He said the couple was in the process of evicting the son.
An investigation into who killed Issa's wife is ongoing.
Issa is being held without bail pending his arraignment on April 11.
He faces life in prison if convicted of the charge.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Well the really sad fact is that I cannot even say that I am too surprised to read this, because I am sure that it has happened before too. There are some questionable people out there who just do not seem to have a grip on reality, and this certainly seems to be the case here. I am glad that he was charged and hopefully the criminal justice system can do its job.

That's quite a mystery there. So who could have killed his wife? The authorities don't seem to think it's his son that killed her though since they are going to investigate who might have murdered her. Whatever is the real story here, it is still very much tragic. I don't even know why a father would even be capable of killing his own son.
And even if it's self-defence, his alibi, I don't think you can shoot your son in an area that can directly kill him. Besides, as a parent, I don't even think I can proceed to shoot my own son even if he threatens to kill me.
There's so much loopholes in this story. If it's true that he killed his son because he's gay, then why only now? And why would the son even kill his own mom? I just hope that the authorities can figure out this whole mess.

As I can say by reading their names, they were not Americans in the "classic" sense of this word. I guess they had a strong Islamic influence within their family. And, as we all know, Muslims are not much tolerant to such things as being openly gay.
Anyway, they are in the US. So, there it's completely normal. I guess this father will spend the remainder of his life in prison.

All crime can be solved, if there is enough evidence. I am sure the gay angle won't play a major role in this whole scenario in the end. I can say I am sure because the guy has already admitted the murder and has nothing to gain by lying about anything related to his wife's murder.
