French MPs have passed a law that makes it illegal to pay for sex and imposes fines
of up to $5 000 for those buying sexual acts.
Those convicted would also have to attend classes to learn :
about the conditions faced by prostitutes :-[

Catherine Stephens, an activist with the UK-based International Union of Sex Workers,
and a sex worker herself, says criminalisation makes those in the industry
"much more likely to have to accept clients who are obscuring their identity,
which benefits people who want to perpetrate violence "

The only people who don't pay are rapists. What is wrong with the French?

So it's legal to sell their bodies but illegal for anyone to buy it? It's weird though... I've always been an advocate of legal prostitution... At least this way, the government can tax them and there will be more safety regulations. All sex workers must pass tests to ensure that they don't have sexually transmitted disease.
The reality is, prostitution is in every country and we cannot eliminate it. What we can do is at least stop the passing of STDs and HIVs from workers to clients or clients to workers.
I do understand though the point of the government about sex traffickers and violence. And since they are offering some kind of help for these sex workers to give up their jobs, that's good as well. So for those sex workers who truly doesn't want to be in this job, they can start their lives again with the help the government is offering.

Paying for sex is a miserable act anyway. It is for those who are not able to connect to someone and have it for free and I know what some will say but maybe it is for the best. This will make those people work harder if they want it or it is going to be an illegal activity and they will have to watch their back from time to time. The fine is not small at all.
