They are not Guyanese, but white Europeans from high society. I also doubt it that they would indulge in the same activities as your family. A lot of stolen gold from East Indian families during the sixties and seventies was used by black families to fund their escape from Guyana, as you no doubt are personally well aware of. Maybe you kept a few pieces as souvenirs of the time when family members roamed the country in search of East Indian occupied home to rob?

Vegas is a city designed to attract individuals ready to spend large amounts in a small period of time, the city has always been relatively expensive with low paid workers living in sub par accomodation. With the ongoing success of the various casinos, hotels and exhibition centres it will only get more expensive.

Well I really have no method of comparison but I would guess that inflation rates are just more susceptible in a place like Vegas. I am not really sure about why that is, but it would just seem that way to me, and where there is always demand I would think that the prices would really be subject to these spikes that we are seeing. I consider myself lukcy in really having no desire to visit there, so I am okay.

But vegas is a cheaper place to live compared to, say, San Francisco, New York or Chicago. Well, those are very extreme examples. But in general, renting is cheaper than in most cities in EEUU.
