In Colorado a woman, Dynel Lane, tricked a pregnant woman into coming to her house via Craigslist. Once the pregnant woman arrived Dynel cut open the 8 months’ pregnant woman. The baby did not live but the expecting mother did. Dynel was sentenced to 100 years in prison. The state could not charge Dynel with murder because the child was an unborn fetus.
If the mother had given birth prematurely and the fetus took a single breath, then died a death certificate would have been composed.
Should Dynel been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of murder?

How awful! That's the reason I barely trust craiglist offers. The charge is a bit confused, will say attempted murder and one count of murder for that deranged bastard. Since the child was unborn but the murder attempt is obviously clear.

My husband sells and buys off Craigslist all the time. I hear stories like this that I wish the site had a secure way of verifying who was hosting the ad or replying. Everyone who uses the site needs to make transactions in public places.

This is terrible. I don't use Craigslist much and this is one reason why. I guess when going through transactions, one should be extra cautious and keep the meeting short. From what I've read, Lane (the attacker) pretended to be pregnant and she was caught by her boyfriend because she was already overdue by 10 months. That's when she posted the "free maternity clothes" listing on Craigslist.
Michelle Wilkins met up with her for the free clothes and she said that they talked for about an hour, which she agreed was kind of weird. She was choked by Lane and even hit by a broken glass so she went unconscious. When she woke up, she was bleeding profusely from her abdomen.
The authorities cannot consider this as a murder of the child simply because it isn't illegal to terminate abortion there whenever in the pregnancy a woman is. It's sad because it is life that is gone all because of a woman's obsession with having her own kid. I do think it should be one count of murder and another for attempted murder. But if the woman is found to have some sort of mental disorder, then she'll be free from any charges.
I just hope that Wilkins can get through this very traumatic incident in her life. And I wish her child rests in peace as well.

For years we have had incidents like this on Craig's List and I am very surprised that people are still meeting up via the service. Its so sad what happen and it gives rise again to the point that people should be very careful about who they meet. Never go alone I say and if possible go with some friends.
