I would also say he got pretty lucky to be drifting for so long and not face any life-threatening circumstance which there could have so many in this situation.

Whatever the circumstances it's a miracle that he was able to survive that long. Sometimes we great exceptions to the norm and I would say this is one of them. People from time to time survive drifting at sea for long periods but 2 months is a really extended time for someone to come out alive in this type of situation. It's sad to hear that the others perished but this survivor should be giving thanks every day for being allowed to survive this horrific ordeal.

It appears that the Coast guard didn't believe the man's story [re: his friends died] but won't be investigating. Heck, it's his word against theirs. How can anyone prove that his friends didn't die a "natural" death? I don't buy that story either. Hunger can make people do terrible things . . .
He was lucky to be found though. Drifting from Colombia all the way to Honolulu it must have been one hell of a voyage.

Still, there's a posibility that they died of natural causes and he ate them after they died and threw the remaining parts overboard. ::dead::
It true that no one can actually investigate this case, unless they find parts of his friends on him, like human bones on hair. That would be something they could work with.
