Prince Demanded Kardashians Be Cut From His 'New Girl' Episode and Their Scripts Burned, Zooey Deschanel Says

Prince not only booted Kim Kardashian off the stage during one of his concerts, it seems he also got the reality star's family members axed from his New Girl episode in 2014.

Zooey Deschanel revealed on Monday's Conan how she came to work with the "Purple Rain" singer on her popular Fox series. "He spent a lifetime cultivating mystique," she shared. "And then one September day three years ago, maybe I got an email from his manager saying he liked watching the show and wanted to come on."

The 36-year-old actress said Prince reviewed the list of famous cameos that were to appear in his party scene on the sitcom, and Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner didn't make the cut. "Someone was friends with some of the Kardashians and had made a phone call and they had kindly come on to shoot a kind of cameo part," Deschanel recalled. "It turns out that someone from Prince's camp said 'Who are the celebrities? I hope it's not a Kardashian.'"

According to Deschanel, Prince was so adamant about not having the family on his episode that he demanded the crew create a bonfire and have the production assistants burn the Kardashians' parts in the script and their call sheets. "I felt so bad," she said. "Because obviously everyone had gone out of their way to be there on that day, but Prince was running the show."

If so, it certainly wasn't the first time Prince had expressed apparent distaste for the Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars. In February 2011 during a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Prince asked Kim to "get off the stage" when she wouldn't dance or sing along.

Following his death on April 21, Kim Instagrammed about the encounter. "I will always remember this moment with one of my favorite artists!” she said of the awkward moment. “I was so star struck I froze! RIP Prince.”

I'm not surprised he chose to distance his persona from reality stars like the Kardashians. Prince was all about soul and quality whereas the Kardashians are glorified nobodies, who cash on putting their personal lives out there. There's no reason for any self-respecting artist to partake in the Kardashian gimmick or for accomplished artists to lend their fame to them either.

The Kardashians are a joke but for some reason many are fascinated with them enough to keep them on the limelight, i don't get it. lol

well its like your being brainwashed while you watch their show.


i watch 1 episode and then i cant stop watching the rest...i spend the first part of the morning just watching them and the entire time im like "why am i watching this???" but yet i cant move away from it.

Oh, wow, I didn't know about this incident... I mean, incidents. Lol. I'm so sorry but I enjoy watching "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." Not because I am a fan of the family but more so for the show itself. I know it's all staged and scripted but I just laugh every time I watch it probably because of how shallow they are.

Anyway, I do understand Prince's sentiments though... I guess when he invited Kim on the stage, he wanted energy and entertainment from the audience as well. But of course, since Kim didn't danced or sang, she didn't really fit the bill. I'm glad that was all she got because it is Prince. He could have pushed her out the stage and people won't judge him. Kidding!

But I love it that he watched "New Girl." I loved that show! At least the first seasons of it, afterwards it spiralled. Haha. I guess he loves quirkiness and weirdness, because that's what the show is all about anyway.

I've never watched the Kardashians and never will.  Just the thought of them make me feel like puking.


I saw Kim Kardashian on Dancing with the Stars.  She couldn't cut it.

I'm sure Prince's disdain was pretty apparent especially when he called Kim off the stage, but I didn't expect him to cut her appearance time in a sitcom. I didn't even know he appeared or liked the show, actually. It's kinda harsh he did that. I could understand him booting her off the stage since she doesn't have artistic presence, she can't dance at all much less sing.

Frivolous Kardashians are the Donald Trumps of showbiz media. They are filthy rich only by being famous  and raising controversy there and there. Prince was rich and rightfully famous enough to not give a damn about Kardashian shenaningans.
