TWO more murders on Sunday night have sent the country’s murder rate to 203. One victim has been identified as Kernel John, 20, while the other is identified as Ricardo Grant.
Both men were gunned down in unrelated incidents in the Marabella and La Horquetta areas respectively.
John, also known as Kernel Harridass of Victoria Street, San Fernando was shot and killed in Marabella during the early hours yesterday morning. According to a police report at about 12.05 am, a resident was at his home at Kitchener Street when he heard several gunshots on the road outside. On checking, the resident observed three men, dressed in dark clothing and armed with guns, shooting at another man who lay on the ground.
The gunmen later got into a Toyota Hilux van parked nearby and sped off. A report was made to police. John was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died while undergoing emergency surgery. ASP Pardassie, Sgts Ramlogan and Teeluck and other officers of the Southern Division Homicide Investigations Bureau visited the scene.
PC Charles is continuing investigations.
When Newsday visited the bereaved home, relatives said they were too distraught to speak.
However, at the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James, relatives said they believe they know who may have killed John and said they will get justice for his murder.
“I know that justice will be served,†said a relative who asked to remain anonymous.
“Justice will be done because I know he never killed anyone, he never went and take anything from anybody.†“It is revenge. It is because of something that wasn’t even concerning him. It was because he was liming with the wrong set of company.
Peter paid for Paul and Paul paid for all,†the relative added. John is the second person murdered in the south land over the weekend. The other victim, Kerron Brown, 21, of Orchid Gardens in Pleasantville was shot dead in Claxton Bay on Saturday night.
In the other incident, an autopsy yesterday confirmed that Ricardo Grant died as a result of shock and haemorrhage consistent with multiple gunshot wounds. While relatives of Grant were reluctant to speak, Newsday understands he was liming with friends along Jacaranda Boulevard in La Horquetta when the group got into an argument.
One of the men then drew a firearm and shot Grant twice. No arrests have been made in these three murders and investigations are continuing.
