A 21-year-old woman has been charged after her vehicle was clocked travelling at 175 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometre-per-hour speed limit zone in the Town of Richmond Hill.
On Tuesday, June 21, 2016, shortly after midnight, officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 7 in the area of Hunters Point Drive. They observed a BMW travelling at a high rate of speed and used the LASER speed measuring device to confirm that the car was travelling at 175 Km/h. The driver of the 2009 BMW stopped for police, was investigated and the car was impounded for seven days.
Charged was Glikeria Nikiforova, 21,of Richmond Hill. Charges: Stunt Driving and Speeding
Officers had been targeting this area for speeding because one week ago a motorcyclist was caught riding at 197 Km/h on this same stretch of roadway.
On Sunday, June 12, 2016, shortly before 10:30 p.m., an officer with the Traffic Bureau was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 7 and Hunters Point Drive. The officer first heard, then spotted, a blue Yamaha motorcycle travelling on Highway 7 at a high rate of speed. The LASER speed measuring device confirmed the motorcycle was travelling at 197 km/h in an 80 Km/h zone.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from the City of Vaughan, was charged with Dangerous Driving, Stunt Driving and Speeding. His motorcycle was impounded for seven days and his licence was suspended.
