Soca in the White House

SOCA music mogul Machel Montano has taken the Caribbean music to the White House.
Montano was one of four artistes who performed and engaged in a panel discussion at the home of the President of the United States in Washington DC.
Montano posted three pictures and a video on his Instagram profile on Wednesday, which showed him performing and speaking to a very receptive and excited audience.
The video showed Montano singing a slower version of his 2009 hit “Dance with You†while playing a cuatro, while he is surrounded by jazz artiste Etienne Charles and other musicians and people capturing the performance with phone cameras.
Montano captioned the video “We wine in the Whitehouse tonight“, and it has been viewed more than 2,600 times.
Charles, who is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies, Michigan State University, accompanied Montano on the trumpet during the short performance.
They both were also the panelists to speak on the topic of Caribbean Musicians for The Caribbean Heritage Month White House Briefing.
In another picture posted on his profile where Montano was speaking during the panel discussion he captioned it “Finally made it to the @whitehouse today to represent Soca music! The impact of Caribean Culture on Americaâ€.
He also posted a picture with American R&B sensation Ryan Leslie.
Most viewers expressed their gratitude and pride at Montano for bringing soca music to one of the most respected and famous buildings in the world.
