Jerry Jones bringing championship boxing to Dallas

Boxing is returning to the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium with a championship bout between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Liam Smith, according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

"When it's the caliber of fight that Canelo Alvarez and Liam Smith is, that's a big deal and what I've tried to do since we built this stadium is have the great sport events," Jones said on CNBC's "Power Lunch" Monday.

Jones said he was anticipating extremely high attendance at the fight given Alvarez's support among Mexicans.

"Canelo is a hero in Mexico," Jones said. "With the draw and the support that Canelo has as a Mexican, then I think that we'll really take it out the top."

This fight will be the third major fight at the Cowboys' football stadium, with the previous two drawing at least 45,000 each, according to Jones. Although Jones said he will not be taking a cut of the Pay Per View proceeds, he said he will be selling the tickets and that "we basically get ours off selling popcorn."

Jones also briefly addressed the recent ruling in the Tom Brady "Deflategate" saga, which reaffirmed the power of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"One thing that we've invested a lot of in, that we all live by is the power of the commissioner," Jones said. "I'm very pleased that that was ratified as to the commissioner's power."
