Jets practice Friday turned into a slugfest — literally — thanks to Brandon Marshall and Darrelle Revis.

The two veteran stars exchanged blows and had to be separated after an intense workout in which the famously hotheaded Marshall and Revis took turns getting the best of each other in their individual matchups on the field.

The fireworks began early, when Marshall said Revis slapped him in the face during a one-on-one drill, and escalated throughout the two-hour practice until Revis — on a carefully managed schedule thanks to offseason wrist surgery — reached his limit of repetitions.

Marshall, who punted a football in frustration during practice earlier in the week, also took exception when Revis pushed him in the back after breaking up a pass in 11-on-11 drills.

After Marshall beat Revis on an 80-yard TD and then for another short completion, Marshall said he retaliated for the Revis punch in one-on-one drills by slapping Revis in the shoulder. Marshall was then pulled away by fellow wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.

“I told him, ‘Don’t ever put your hands in my face again like that,’ ’’ Marshall said after practice. “He kinda baited me to [punch him back], and I did it. It kinda went too far, but there’s a thin line between football and being a man.

“Today it crossed that football line. But I can’t let nobody slap me in my face.”
Marshall, who has a history of ugly feuds with teammates dating to his days with the Broncos, Dolphins and Bears, then taunted Revis by reminding him of his matchup with the Texans’ DeAndre Hopkins last year — one of Revis’ worst days as a pro.
Jets coach Todd Bowles then ordered his assistants to end the Marshall-Revis individual matchups for the day.

Bowles and Marshall both downplayed the situation, with Marshall insisting he and Revis are close since becoming teammates last year.

Revis initially said he would speak to reporters about the incident afterward, then changed his mind.

“Darrelle and I are super close,” Marshall said. “We hang out together off the field. This just happens. It isn’t going to be the last time it happens. But it happens in camp and happens in practice. You’ve just got to move forward. Our real opponent is going to be [Cincinnati in the Sept. 11 season opener] and the guys after that.”

Bowles shrugged off the Marshall-Revis fireworks as a typical byproduct of training camp, except for the fisticuffs.

“You love them competing,” Bowles said. “You’re going to get pissed off in camp as a player. It’s not charm school. We’re going to play football, and both of them got where they are by making plays and from not backing down. You like that competitiveness. You’ve just got to keep it clean, and for the most part, they did.”

Enunwa, who broke up the second Marshall-Revis altercation, said he enjoyed their showdown.

“You’ve got to take that with a grain of salt,” Enunwa said. “It’s nothing personal. When two of the greatest competitors in the game go at it, it’s going to happen. I’m glad that they’re smart players and kept it off the field. They were just out there trying to make each other better.”

Marshall also appeared to get a kick out of the Jets’ version of Fight Club.

“That’s what I love about practicing against Darrelle,” Marshall said. “He’s not just a guy that’s going to come out there and go through the motions. What you see on Sundays is what you’re going to get in practice. He takes it personally if you catch a ball on him. That’s what makes him great. I just think the way he handled things in one-on-ones is what you do to a rookie.”

If you think Friday’s throwdown will linger between the two, Marshall said to think again.

“It’s done,” he said. “It’s football. What happens on the field stays on the field.”
