Iran threatened to shoot down two US Navy surveillance aircraft flying close to Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf over the weekend, the latest in a series of recent provocations between Iran and the US military in the region, three US defense officials with knowledge of the incident told Fox News.

On Sept. 10, a Navy P-8 Poseidon with a crew of nine and an EP-3 Eries with a crew of roughly 24, were flying a reconnaissance mission 13 miles off the coast of Iran, in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, according to officials.

Iran’s territorial waters—like all nations--extend 12 miles into the sea, according to international maritime law.

The U.S. Air Force flew two B-1 bombers over South Korea, in a show of force following North Korea’s fifth nuclear test last week. Pyongyang claimed the move was a technological advancement and had shown it could mount a nuclear warhead on its ballistic missiles. “North Korea’s nuclear test is a dangerous escalation and poses an unacceptable threat,” said U.S. Forces Korea Commander Gen. Vincent K. Brooks. “The United States has an unshakable commitment to defend allies in the region and will take necessary steps to do so, including operations like this one today.” South Korean fighter jets also joined the flyover of Osan Air Base. Brooks said, “Today’s demonstration provides just one example of the full range of military capabilities in the deep resources of this strong alliance to provide and strengthen extended deterrence.”

One man is dead and another is in custody after a reported fight over religion that led to a violent altercation outside a rooming house near the York University campus early Tuesday morning.

It happened at an address on Boake Street in the Village at York University neighbourhood just after midnight.

The victim, described as a man in his 20s, was without vital signs at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Humber River Hospital.

According to people who live in the area, the same group often gathered outside the rooming house. Police have not commented on the circumstances of the stabbing, however several witnesses told CTV Toronto that it occurred following an argument over religion.
“Some guy has been trying to say that Muslims are bad. The other guy is trying to say you guys are bad,” area resident Fatah Sandhu said. “…And last night for some reason, it just got out of hand.”
"And I heard them still out there at like 11 something and I heard one guy say, ‘Oh no, it's because you're Arabic,’ and the other guy was like, ‘No, it was not, it was your people,’" Griffith said.
