Teva Pharmaceuticals laying off 236 in Pomona
POMONA - Layoffs are underway at the Teva Pharmaceuticals USA plant that is closing in the village.
Teva is winding down operations at its manufacturing plant at 223 Quaker Road due to economic reasons, according to the state Department of Labor's website. Layoffs will impact all 236 employees at the company.
Layoffs began last week and will extend through the plant's closing date on Feb. 28.
Teva has its US headquarters in North Wales, Pennsylvania, and manufactures more than 350 generic medicines, according to the company website. Teva in the US is part of Israel-based Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. The pharmaceutical company has more than 46,000 employees worldwide.
Numerous unions represent employees at the Pomona plant, including the Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, and United Steel, among others.
In 2014, Teva was fined $8,500 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration after inspectors found two violations of workplace safety laws at the Pomona plant.

Well this is sad. It is even more sad just knowing that this is coming from a big pharma company, which means that I am guessing they are just protecting their bottom line, and really doing anything substantial to try to save these jobs. I am also betting that they are not really helping the former employees either, but maybe I am not giving them enough credit. My cynicism seems to know no bounds anymore. Interesting stuff, though, and thanks for sharing.
