Ramayya resigns from AFC, cites corruption

Executive member of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Dr. Veersammy Ramayya, has tendered his resignation with immediate effect from the party.
This decision comes after he recently resigned from the post of Region Six Executive Officer.
In his resignation letter submitted to General Secretary of the AFC, David Patterson, Ramayya said, “Today, I have no remorse to exit myself from the Party, because I am a self-assertive and strong-minded individual who always crusades with uncompromising principles because the party fails to deliver.”
Ramayya told media operatives at a press conference on Tuesday that the main reason he tendered his resignation is because of the continued corruption.
He said that one of the main reasons for leaving is that promises were made to eradicate corruption.
He said that the administration is turning a blind eye to the reality of what is happening.
Dr. Ramayya stated that despite the frequent confrontations and complaints between him and other executive members in the region, no affirmative actions were taken.
He further noted that several letters were sent to President David Granger and other members of the coalition administration asking for a reimbursement of monies spent during the 2015 campaign, but he has not yet received any confirmation that his money would be reimbursed.
“I sent the letters; three weeks passed and no one had the courtesy to reply to say yes they received the letter or anything like that. They didn’t say anything.”
According to Ramayya, no support was given to him as the former REO of Region Six.
“No one ever asked me how I making out in the region. I was basically on my own. Being the REO, I was doing Region Six a favour. I tried my best to stamp out corruption in the region”.
Ramayya noted that he has no regrets or apologies to the AFC. He stated that he will continue his efforts to stamp out corruption in Region Six.
The letter was copied to AFC Ministers Khemraj Ramjattan, Raphael Trotman, Dominic Gaskin and Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo.
Ramayya, an AFC parliamentarian in the last Parliament had publicly threatened to resign but did not hand in his letter to the party.
