SporTT CEO Adam Montserin and Tourism Development Company Acting CEO Warren Solomon welcomed a 13-person contingent representing the Club Aquatique Montreal (CAMO) at Piarco International early yesterday morning. SporTT chairman Michael Phillips was also on hand to meet the team as they arrived on the early morning flight.
The Canadian club's visit was coordinated by the business development department of SporTT, in an ongoing effort to position Trinidad and Tobago as a premier destination for winter training. The contact was initiated through Canadian operator, Magik Tours, whose representatives visited the country earlier in December to scout the location and make the necessary arrangements. After meeting the group, SporTT CEO Adam Montserin said he was pleased at the effort and expects the team's stay to be a successful one.
“We have done everything in our power to ensure the team has everything they need. This is the culmination of six months of preparation which we hope will bear fruit in the near future. A good experience for CAMO will inevitably inspire other teams from North America to consider Trinidad and Tobago as a training destination.â€
Swimming Association (ASATT) president Wendell Lai Hing praised the initiative, saying, “We are happy that the SporTT has taken the lead to bring teams to use the facility. Together, we will collaborate to ensure that Trinidad and Tobago is presented in the best possible way.â€
CAMO coach of Claude St Jean stated that he is excited to begin the training camp and fondly recalled that T&T Olympian George Bovell was a former member of CAMO.
