Axing of Justice Kennard
“I think it’s age. He’s almost over 80 ....."
These are the words of Khemraj Ramjattan. It is bewildering that this man, aside from being the Minister responsible for Public Security is also a member of the legal profession.
If one were to judge Mr Ramjattan on the basis of these comments alone, it would be easy to conclude that this man is a dunce and a disgrace to his profession.
His words, his pathetic reason for the axing of the Chairman of the PCA, the Hon. Chancellor Mr. Cecil Kennard is confusing, riddled with inconsistencies and smacks of nefarious intent.
Mr Ramjattan opens his comments with uncertainty and indecisiveness by the mere utterance of "I think ...."
Is he unsure of why "Judge" is fired?
He thinks it's age, yet he is unsure of that in of itself.
He thinks, Judge "..is almost over 80".
It's a confusing statement for an erudite, belonging to a higher and noble profession. It is either judge is 80, or over 80, he cannot be "... almost over 80". Only a confused mind or a dunce would aver as much.
One would think that Mr Ramjattan given his schooling, position and political experience would possess and use better linguistic skills. But given the utterances falling out of the mouths of those in authority, it is wishful thinking.
Just a mere month or so ago, while conducting an inspection of the drug storage bond (not a single pill) another dunce Volda Lawrence was recorded and aired live on national
Television begging the media to show the viewers the bridge "... flim it, flim it!!! But I digress she is very unlike the highly schooled Mr Ramjattan. She literally wears the cap.
This legal mind is conveying a decision made by the President and "... he thinks"?
What is there to think about? The decision is made and there ought to have been sound, judicious reasoning for it. Unless there is none!
Mr Ramjattan spoke glowingly of the ex chancellor:
“He has performed excellently, even whilst we were in Opposition, he was there…the reports he’s been giving were excellent reports. He is Chancellor and he’s a quality jurist and of course he knows the job of the judges’ rules, how policemen should behave, the norms that go with that highly professional vocation and so he has performed very well and he has done almost on every score, the right things in relation to his recommendationsâ€.
Given the glowing tributes paid to Judge, it would be safe to conclude that there are two patently obvious reasons why his services are no longer required and none of it has to do with his sober mind, his sound reasoning, his readily acceptable recommendations, his health or the execution of his duties.
The first is ageism. Mr Ramjattan acknowledged the qualifications, credibility and contributions of Judge. By virtue of his own admission, Mr Ramjattan, acting on instructions from the President has blatantly discriminated against Judge due to his age. This is not about qualifications or merit and that leads to the second reason.
Nefarious, political intent of the highest order. If Judge is "... almost over 80" then what about Greene, Clark, Moses and Granger himself?
Nothing further need be added to this, unless one seeks to be lumped in with the dunces.
