One of the paradox of Guyana is that while there is very little being concretely done to address social pathologies such as suicide, abuse, alcoholism and drug addiction, the plans (except for alcoholism) on paper are actually good and the laws as well are generally on the book. However the lack of priority by government after government and the lack of desire to stringently apply the laws continue to dog concerted and comprehensive redress. Had it not been for the work of NGOs, Faith Based Organizations and Community Based Organizations supported by social activists and socially responsible businesses, the situation would have been untenable. Will there ever be a government that is willing to implements the plans across the board and give teeth to the laws?
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
