Liberty University Grads Returning Diplomas to Protest Falwell’s Trump Support

A group of Liberty University graduates is preparing to return their diplomas to the school in protest of its president, Jerry Falwell Jr., and his continued support for President Donald Trump. “I'm sending my diploma back because the president of the United States is defending Nazis and white supremacists,” said Chris Gaumer, a 2006 graduate and former student government leader, in reference to the president’s remarks where he suggested a moral equivalence between the white supremacists protesting in Charlottesville and the counter-protesters. “And in defending the president's comments, Jerry Falwell Jr. is making himself and, it seems to me, the university he represents, complicit.” In an appearance on ABC’s This Week this Sunday, Falwell pushed back, saying Gaumer “completely misunderstands my support” for Trump.
