Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell said a waiter who supports President Donald Trump refused to serve him at a restaurant in his hometown in Alabama.
Maxwell, the only player in the MLB to kneel during the national anthem, told TMZ Sports that his party ultimately had to ask management for a new server during the lunch confrontation.
Maxwell described the encounter in a video with TMZ Sports: “He was like, ‘You’re the guy who took the knee? I voted for Trump and I stand for everything he stands for.’ ”
More than 200 NFL players knelt during the anthem — as a nod to peaceful protests for racial equality that then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began last year — after Trump reignited the protesting with his rhetoric at an Alabama rally in September. Trump used profanity to describe kneeling players and called for their firing.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
